For years, the graphic work of Léon Spilliaert (1881-1946) was studied little or not at all. It was not until 1982 that a first exhibition was dedicated to him. Spilliaert's prints, his cover illustrations and book illustrations are undoubtedly less well-known than his original works on paper, but they are at least as mysterious and attractive, and as varied in their subject matter: portraits, figures, landscapes, views of cities, forests and parks. The Ostend native Léon Spilliaert is, like his fellow citizen James Ensor, considered today as one of the pioneers of modern Belgian art. More than 35 years after the first exhibition and on the occasion of the Léon Spilliaert exhibition. The collection of the Royal Library of Belgium in the Venetian Galleries of Ostend, from June 30 to September 30, 2018, Pandora Publishers publishes a new and expanded edition of the catalog of prints by Léon Spilliaert by Xavier Tricot.
