A born artist, Marcelle Baud entered the Académie Julian and the Beaux-Arts in Paris at an early age, then the École du Louvre. There she developed a passion for Egypt, which led her to a circle that had previously been dominated by men, the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology. Her destiny was sealed: she would reveal ancient Egypt through her meticulous surveys and copies, and through her inspired drawings and paintings.
Before passing away near Issoire, where her paternal origins are, she bequeathed a large part of her considerable work to the Bargoin Museum in Clermont-Ferrand. This book, which accompanies the exhibition proposed by this museum in 2021-2022, traces the career of this pioneer of French Egyptology.
