More than just a report on the excavations conducted by the Louvre and the IFAO from 2003 to 2007, this volume aims to present the northern church of Baouît by bringing together all available documentation, and in particular that recently published in É. Chassinat, Fouilles à Baouît II (MIFAO 134), which covers the 1902 campaign. The first part concerns archaeology. This is followed by presentations on the architecture, decoration, and furnishings, which show the past and present state of the monument. Some series are presented in the form of a catalog: sculptures, wood, figurative paintings on wood, and furniture elements. The texts and inscriptions provide the testimony of their authors, who knew the church when it was in use. The evidence in this part enriches the epigraphic corpus of Baouît. The chronology, from the 8th to the 10th century , is based on dated documents, on architectural studies, on the observation of restorations of the decor and on some carbon 14 dating. An appendix is devoted to the conservation and restoration of the monument and the objects which come from it, today dispersed between several museums.
