Library of the School of Advanced Studies, volume 347. "Demotic wisdoms are collections of proverbs attested only in Greek and Roman Egypt. We have resumed the analysis of this file from the angle of the composition of the proverbs. This leads to isolating different stanzas and highlighting different mnemonic processes. Indeed, as Henri Irénée Marrou had shown for the classical Greek world, recitation must have played a major role in the temple schools of Hellenistic Egypt. Returning to the theme of the "gymnastics of the mind" by R. Cribiore, we can compare the methods of learning literary texts in use in Greek gymnasiums and Egyptian temples."
