Designer, architect, theorist, professor, author of numerous works, Andrea Branzi has accomplished a considerable body of work, focused on a radical experimentation of design, which questions the post-industrial society of the 20th and 21st centuries.
A member of the Archizoom Associati group from 1964 to 1974, he participated in the creation of Studio Alchimia in 1977 before joining the Memphis collective in 1981. Through drawings, design objects, architectural projects, paintings, and installations, Branzi explores the relationship between industrial design and the notion of "nature," which no longer exists as such, but becomes an artificial "second nature." For Branzi, design is above all emotional. His protean work questions the domestic environment and the objects that accompany us: how can we give "a hospitable world" to humans, to the living? What is the meaning of our belonging to the "kingdom of the living"?
Catalogue of the exhibition "Andrea Branzi, the reign of the living" held at the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, from July 11 to November 2, 2025, directed by Marie-Ange Brayer, chief curator, head of the Design and Industrial Foresight department at the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou.
