Responsible for around thirty manuscripts produced between 1425 and 1465, the Master of the Romance of the Rose of Vienna was an important illuminator, active in Lyon and likely identified with John Hortart, known as the Scottish. Appreciated as an illustrator of secular texts, he was characterized by an elegant language which, halfway between International Gothic and Ars Nova , had a profound impact on local production. The book devoted to him aims to reflect on the Lyonnais center as a center for the production of illuminated manuscripts before the establishment of printing (1473) and on its role in the dynamics of cultural exchanges with centers such as Avignon, Geneva, Chalon-sur-Saône and Dijon. It constitutes the fourth volume in the editorial series of Resurrected from art history which, articulated on the Geneva program Painting in France during the Renaissance aims to introduce leading painters recently rediscovered thanks to the connoisseurship .
