Exhibition catalog - Toile de Jouy Museum.

On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and as part of the equestrian events taking place in Versailles, a neighboring town of the Toile de Jouy Museum, the exhibition Horsehair in All Its Brilliance. Weaving an Exceptional Fiber celebrates the union between the world of horses and textile art. It highlights this little-known material as a woven fiber and presents its physical, technical, artistic, and aesthetic characteristics. Horsehair is durable, strong, rigid, noble, soft, and shiny. This is why, since the 18th century, it has been acclaimed in Europe for clothing and furniture. Today, it inspires contemporary designers, who value its character and nobility in their artistic approach. At the heart of remarkable know-how, horsehair weaving is still carried out in France by rare artisans and by one of the last workshops to work this fiber manually: attached to the house Métaphores-Le Crin, creator and publisher of fabrics for interior decoration, it tames this material thanks to the gestures and the meticulous eye of the men and women who create exceptional pieces there.
