Twenty years of work on the renaturation of the Geneva river Aire, and in the end: a marvel! This new publication would like to present the original way of giving shape to the new river bed, of working to let the river do its thing, tested during a third stage of implementation (2012-2016),
While the Aire renaturation project in Geneva has, of course, recognized the need to expand the space given to the watercourse, an expansion essential to any true restoration of the river, this project is also characterized by the new relationships maintained between an existing site and its transformation, between the old canal and the new river. This was the subject of the book Aire, the River and its Double, published in 2018 by ParkBooks in Zurich. This new publication would like to present the original way of giving shape to the new riverbed, of working to let the river take its course, tested during a third phase of implementation (2012-2016). The artificial creation of a system of trenches, similar to the characteristic ravines that occur during hydraulic soil erosion, has proven to be an effective way of accelerating the morphogenesis of the new bed. What lessons can be learned today from the evolution of the processes thus triggered? Is this unprecedented approach applicable to other contexts? Describing the history of this experience, the reactions it provoked and the questions that remain open, is also a call for exchanges with the authors of similar projects proposed in this book. Because explaining oneself, explaining, "is wanting to get closer to the other, to share an understanding of the world" Isabelle Stengers. "Reactivating common sense
