In 2025, one hundred years after his death, Infolio editions celebrate Felix Vallotton with a new edition of The Murderous Life (1907) which accompanies Corbehaut (1918, 2010) and The Sighs of Cyprien More (1900, 2015), his two other novels.
The Murderous Life (1907) is the most famous of Félix Vallotton's three posthumous novels. Part crime novel, part realist narrative, and part autobiographical tale, this novel recounts the terrible journey of Jacques Verdier, a young twenty-eight-year-old painter who committed suicide and left us a manuscript entitled "Un amour," filled with cruel confidences. The private and personal malaise echoes a great social malaise. Through the sharp and disappointed gaze of the young painter (and writer), this dark novel makes pessimistic observations with remarkable evocative power.
