In 2020, the Meurthe-et-Moselle Departmental Council and the City of Nancy are joining forces to present a season dedicated to 18th-century Lorraine sculpture. Two major exhibitions will be held at the Château de Lunéville and the Nancy Museum of Fine Arts. This event benefits from the exceptional participation of the Louvre Museum and is the subject of a request for a label of exhibition of national interest from the French Museums Service. In Nancy, the Palace of the Dukes of Lorraine - Lorraine Museum will present an off-site exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, entitled: The Adams. Sculpture as Heritage. The Lunéville Castle Museum will honor this theme by showcasing the heritage still present within the building and its gardens, where the Dukes of Lorraine resided in the last century of its independence. Under the title: Sculpture in its Castle. Variations on a Major Art, the exhibition scheduled to be open to the public from June 26 to November 2, 2020, will be postponed due to the health crisis. It will open from September 19, 2020, to January 10, 2021, the same dates as the partner exhibition to be held in Nancy. This exhibition will address sculpture in all the diversity offered by court arts, from the furniture and wall decoration elements of the ducal apartments to the statuary of the basins, including the reliefs and other mascarons accompanying the architecture of Germain Boffrand. Curated by Guilhem Scherf and Thierry Franz, research fellow at the Musée de Lunéville and doctoral student in art history, the scientific approach of the exhibition will benefit from the most recent research on the history of the château and its collections.
