A small store opened in 1870, La Samaritaine continued to expand, forming an urban island devoted to commerce. Renowned architects Frantz Jourdain, assisted by his son Francis, and Henri Sauvage, between 1900 and 1930, transformed La Samaritaine into a dual masterpiece of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
Closed in 2005, La Samaritaine is now reborn under the leadership of LVMH. Restored, transformed, and embellished, both authentic and new, it is structured into a complex that includes a new department store—Samaritaine Paris Pont-Neuf—offices, social housing, a daycare center, and a hotel—Cheval Blanc Paris.
