Mathurin Méheut (1883-1958) had a dream: to illustrate Kipling's Jungle Book, for its exuberant plant settings and extraordinary fauna. Visiting Japan and Hawaii, he cultivated this taste for elsewhere. But it was with the philanthropist Albert Kahn, his villas and gardens, that he discovered Mediterranean flora. Patrick Le Tiec brings together here in 120 works all of Méheut's exoticism. Like his botanical plates (1931), but also animal studies, decorated ceramics, his illustrated correspondence with Yvonne Jean-Haffen... Exoticism in the work of a traveling artist fascinated by the distant and the forms of nature, at the crossroads of art and science.
