In 2017, the Pont-Aven Museum presents a two-part exhibition, dedicated to the influences and sources of inspiration that emerged between 1870 and 1940, in the wake of the masters of modern painting. The second part - Modernity in Brittany - 2, from Jean-Julien Lemordant to Mathurin Méheut (1920-1940) - powerfully illustrates the Breton artistic revival thanks to strong individuals considered unclassifiable. A quest for modernity is organized around artists such as Jean-Julien Lemordant, René-Yves Creston, Mathurin Méheut, Yvonne Jean-Haffen. with a desire to combine modernity and authenticity. The subjects are taken in situ: port life, the Breton coast, the wind, local workers (fishermen, oyster farmers, strawberry pickers in Plougastel, etc.). Through various creative techniques, from painting to ceramics, in small format or in monumental version, these artists put their creativity and talent at the service of Brittany.
