Catalog of the exhibition event presenting the 200 winners of the major photojournalism commission launched by the State in 2020 to support the photojournalism profession. Among the exhibitions devoted to photographed France, from La France de Raymond Depardon in 2010 to Paysages français, une aventure photographique (1984-2017) in 2017, this one aims to be a milestone.
The catalogue contains 500 photographs representing mainland and overseas France and covering all aspects of society in this post-Covid period: work, poverty, youth, old age, the environment, rurality, health, etc.
The collection is organized into four parts introduced by a text by a guest author: Liberties (Pierre Haski), Equalities (Judith Rainhorn), Fraternities (Cynthia Fleury), Potentialities (Pierre Charbonnier).
Beyond this portrait of the country and its inhabitants, this exceptional collection of photographs illustrates the vitality of contemporary creation in the field of press photography as well as the variety of photojournalistic writing. While some winners have chosen to capture the moment, or even the event, others have opted for a less marked temporality, thus claiming a more metaphorical register.
A dive into France in the 2020s that will interest not only visitors to the exhibition but also all those passionate about photography and who will find in this work recognized figures of photojournalism as well as more than promising young talents.
An exhibition at the BnF - François-Mitterrand site from March 19 to June 23, 2024
