This new volume in the "Rencontres de l'École du Louvre" collection brings together contributions from the international conference "France and Europe around 1500. Artistic Crossroads and Exchanges" organized by the École du Louvre, the Musée national du Moyen ge-Thermes et hôtel de Cluny, the Musée national de la Renaissance-Château d'Écouen, in partnership with the Institut national d'histoire de l'art. This conference extended and complemented the exhibition "France 1500. Between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance" presented at the Grand Palais from October 2010 to January 2011. A "Young Researchers' Forum" bringing together seven doctoral students and young curators preceded this event, which brought together seventeen specialists and addressed the themes of the circulation of works, artists and models over three days. Themes illustrated by the influence of Italian illuminations on French production around 1500 and which are also found in the field of sculpture, by the presence of a Germanic current in French painting and the importance of the models conveyed by the engraved work of Dürer. More specific studies on the presence of French artists abroad (Spain, Portugal), as well as that of Flemish, Italian or German artists in France, have made it possible to account for cultural crossovers and exchanges. Other aspects of artistic production, particularly in architecture, but also artistic techniques such as textiles, ceramics, weapons or mural painting have been explored. The proceedings of this conference, reflecting the richness of the exchanges that took place on this occasion, testify to the diversity of research carried out in these fields.
