Having come to Roscoff for six months in 1910, the great artist Mathurin Méheut stayed there for two years, bringing together the sum of his watercolors, drawings and sketches in an exceptional work: L'Étude de la Mer. Each of his works reproduced here is accompanied by a commentary written by the oceanographer and biologist Michel Glémarec.
140 drawings and color plates, reproducing more than 160 species, testify to the specific richness of these often fragile environments. The scientific quality of the author illuminates this illustrated abundance and allows us to understand a marine universe that has long remained mysterious.
