What makes a city beautiful?

Its site, its morphology, its buildings, its gardens, its materials, its soils? Its inhabitants, its fragilities, its hospitality, its environments, its scale? How is urban aesthetics defined, according to the projects and constraints of each century? What forms can be taken to bring about the climate transition?

At a time when the municipality is questioning the aesthetics of the capital by creating a manifesto, when the administration is developing new urban regulations, but also when Parisians are affirming their desire to participate in these debates, the Pavillon de l'Arsenal has brought together, since the start of the second lockdown in the autumn of 2020, around fifty architects, artists, exhibition curators, historians, landscapers, philosophers, sociologists, urban planners... to try to understand what makes Paris beautiful.
