In September 2012, the Louvre Museum inaugurated rooms where works currently divided between several departments will now be housed: Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities, Oriental Antiquities, Egyptian and Nubian Antiquities, from the 1st century until the Arab conquest – and later even for Coptic Egypt under Arab domination – the common point between all these works being Roman domination, the beginnings of the Christian era and Eastern religions. The new section of the museum therefore brings together objects on a basis less conditioned by the history of art than by the fact of civilization, and provides the opportunity to publish a catalog, richly illustrated and written by the best specialists in the subject, exhaustively bringing together the collections of Roman Egypt and the Orient and the Coptic collections of the museum.
