Christian Dotremont founded Revolutionary Surrealism in Belgium in 1947 and, the following year, the CoBrA movement (1948-1951) – an acronym for the cities Copenhagen-Brussels-Amsterdam – which brought together artists from northern Europe and advocated spontaneity. On one side, there was Dotremont and his friends from CoBrA (Alechinsky, Pol Bury, Luc de Heusch, Asger Jorn, Reinhoud), his contemporaries (Duchamp, Hergé, Michaux) and those who preceded him (Cocteau, Picasso). On the other, Balzac and his world.
