The author reprints nineteen articles he had devoted to the history of the city of Argos. They deal with the genesis of the city and its territory, the constitution of the city-state, the consolidation of its borders, and its place in the Mediterranean world after the Roman conquest. Under the title Points of History, four articles are reprinted, devoted to texts known for a long time, but which new archaeological or epigraphic discoveries invite us to reread differently. Progress made by research since the first publication of these works has been noted whenever possible. The last chapter, Repentances and Clarifications, completes these indications.
