This book highlights a selection of photographs by two pioneers of modern photography. Jacques Henri Lartigue and André Kertész each built their own oeuvre, following parallel or divergent paths but systematically outside the mainstream. Neither journalists, nor documentary filmmakers, nor actors in the event, each gave their photographs a timeless dimension that explains the ever-renewed interest of spectators.
These two unique personalities have one thing in common: that of having been masters of photography who inspired many photographers without ever having established a school, that of having remained on the fringes of the major trends in photography by always having "stepped aside".
This publication is co-published by the City of Versailles and the Heritage and Photography Media Library. The book includes a general text by Marion Perceval, director of the Jacques Henri Lartigue Donation, and Matthieu Rivallin, assistant to the head of the photography department at the MPP, and a portfolio of 70 images combining the works (b/w and color) of the two photographers.
