The study of the thousands of ceramic shards that littered the stratified floors included in the very limited perimeter of the Treasury of Thutmose I at Karnak North and its immediate surroundings makes it possible to follow the evolution of indigenous ceramics in the southern part of Egypt from the beginning of the Middle Kingdom to the Roman period.
It also reveals the extent of the contacts that the Theban region had with neighboring regions and countries from Sudan in the south to the bordering regions of the Mediterranean, North Africa, Italy, Magna Graecia and Palestine, passing through the oases of the Egyptian Western Desert.
