Catherine Denis, born in 1954, spent her youth in a musical environment that initiated her perception of space and rhythm. In 1980, she discovered Chinese calligraphy in Taiwan and then moved to China, to the National School of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, where she resided from 1986 to 1989. There she deepened her knowledge of the art of brush writing, and, upon returning to France, shared her experience with a few disciples while developing her personal work.
Kept from 2004 to 2009, this journal brings together remarks and impressions on work and continuous learning. Beyond the intimate, it is a reflection on the art of Chinese calligraphy, on the exercise of the line, a practice that has inspired many artists, from Alechinsky to Zao Wou Ki, including Dotremont and Michaux.
