Jean Sgard (1891-1966), a goldsmith and engraver born in Abbeville in Picardy, participated fully in the artistic and cultural life of his hometown for more than forty years. Awarded several times, he was awarded the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 1936 for his work as a goldsmith and, unusually, received a second in 1961 for his work as an engraver. He also exhibited his work in the most important Parisian salons. Although his work gradually fell into oblivion, he nevertheless remains present in the memory of enthusiasts as the last Abbeville goldsmith and engraver. Linked to the exhibition dedicated to him at the Boucher de Perthes Museum in Abbeville, this book aims to revive this memory and present to the reader the wide range of Jean Sgard's talents.
