The Cèdre Photographe collective was formed in January 2022 from of a testimony project aiming to put the photographic tool at their disposal service. This project, designed and led by Joseph Aimard, a student and volunteer at Secours Catholique, was set up with the competition of CEDRE (Mutual Aid Center for Asylum Seekers and Refugees), a branch of Catholic Relief Services in the 19th arrondissement arrondissement of Paris. The collective has eight members

from sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb and South Asia: Harouna S., Khalid M., Mamadou Lamine D., Ousmane B., Riadh D., Richard C., Seydou D. and Tidjane D.
These eight migrant photographers, along with Joseph Aimard and Isis Khan, young professional and volunteer at Secours Catholique, met every Sunday during the year 2022, driven by the desire to bear witness through photography. Thus, the collective has become a source of creation, of sharing and solidarity for these exiled amateur artists, whose existence, often tragic, is marked by solitude and the difficulty of feeling listened to or understood. Through a frank and fresh perspective, the collective wanted to highlight what distance – linguistic, cultural, social – often prevents us from grasping in the reality of exile.

From this shared adventure this work was built, the photographs having been taken by the collective and the texts written by Joseph Aimard.

I am courage is the story of an unknown and uncertain crossing. A crossing, because this photographic work is part of above all in movement, a movement beyond borders, and here a movement of wandering in a Paris of contrasts: we come across faces, more or less familiar, in places that are sometimes recognizable and touristy, sometimes mysterious and intimate.
