When the First World War broke out, Cendrars enlisted as a volunteer; he was wounded and lost his right arm in 1915. The experience of combat and death would constantly reappear in his work, starting with this first pamphlet written in his left hand violently denouncing the ignominy of war. We are reproducing here in facsimile the original edition printed in color by François Bernouard in 1918.
