In 2015, the McCord Museum in Montreal received a donation of one of the most important collections of posters and documents related to magic in the world, the Allan Slaight Collection. Published on the occasion of the exhibition "Illusions" at the McCord Museum, this book presents 250 exceptional posters produced from the 1880s to the 1940s. During this period, the golden age of magic, dozens of magicians and conjurers competed with each other through advertising campaigns. In the United States and Europe, city walls were plastered with posters giving a preview of their most spectacular tricks. Devils and imps, skulls and skeletons, bodies and severed heads, cards and rabbits, alluring assistants and exotic images inspired poster artists and printers in their creations. Six renowned authors in their fields present this fabulous display of images and colors and offer us the keys to these magnificent creations to grasp their full historical, social and graphic value.
