Robert Humblot, known as "Bob" (1907-1962), an emblematic figure of 20th-century French art, passed away prematurely. He made a significant contribution to the revival of French figurative art in the 1930s and the post-war period. Alongside Rohner, Tal Coat, Jannot, Lasne, Pellan, and the art critic Henri Héraut, he founded the "Forces Nouvelles" group in 1935, which advocated a return to drawing and a new classicism. A humanist painter, a lucid and premonitory witness of an era, he was also an introspective portraitist of the soul laid bare. Without nuance or artifice, with the uncompromising passion and eye of an entomologist, he painted his loved ones and models with candor. This book is the first monograph devoted to him. Text by Lydia Harambourg — Testimonies by Brigitte Humblot, the artist's daughter. Foreword by Dominique Gagneux — Preface by Emmanuel Bréon.
