Hong Kong's neon signs have been a part of the visual and cultural identity of the legendary Asian city for decades. Unfortunately, over the past fifteen years, 90% of the neon signs have been removed. For safety and energy-saving reasons, they are being replaced with LED signs. This project is carried out using a photographic format that has also virtually disappeared: instant photography, using Polaroid and Fujifilm.
This book, produced between 2012 and 2019, pays exceptional tribute to this visual heritage and to the people who created and shaped these neon signs, as well as to Hong Kong, whose identity is gradually crumbling and which is entering an uncertain future.
