“On Sundays, we went to the countryside, but we never came back empty-handed. Everything was an excuse to pick: asparagus, blackberries, thyme, rosemary, fennel, sage… It was unthinkable to go out just for pleasure. It had to be “useful.”

The 150 wild plants that form the core of this book still grow on hillsides, near houses and paths, but few people gather them today. Even fewer use them.
The Herbarium of Hills and Paths aims to bring these plants out of the silence into which they have gradually fallen, along with the knowledge and folk tales that surrounded them. With photographs, herbarium plates, and recipes to support it, this guide, in the form of an ethnobotanical investigation, rekindles the desire to explore the land and teaches us how to glean what we can.
This book is illustrated with the herbarium that the author himself created, classified as a remarkable herbarium by the Natural History Museum of Aix-en-Provence. The text is accompanied by 250 color photographs to recognize each species in situ.
