Eight splendid lithographs that recreate Paris in 1900: Montmartre, the suburbs, the banks of the Seine... designed by an illustrator strongly influenced by Japanese prints. The result is a captivating account of the capital at the turn of the century, somewhere between contemporary comics and Studio Ghibli. The work of Henri Rivière (1864-1951) constitutes an important milestone in French graphic arts.
Like many artists of his time, he was deeply struck by Japanese prints, of which he would become an important collector. He was the only one, however, to want to put these oriental lessons and his love of the grandiose spectacles of nature to the benefit of the greatest number, by designing series of wall lithographs intended to adorn modest interiors or classrooms.
This is the case of this unique collection, Paysages parisiens, which offers eight splendid lithographs of the capital at the very end of the 19th century, where the typically Parisian panoramas seem caressed by a distant rising sun.
