Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931) is one of the most emblematic artists of Finnish art at the turn of the 20th century. Famous for his important participation in the Finnish pavilion at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris as well as for his contribution to national iconography, the painter remains associated with the affirmation of Finnish identity. Gallen-Kallela nevertheless created a multifaceted body of work: exploring a multitude of media and formats, he embraced a wide variety of themes and styles, from naturalism to symbolism to expressionism.

Presenting some sixty compositions by this artist, one of Finland's most famous, "Gallen-Kallela. Myths and Nature" sheds new light on his work in French, in an exceptional monograph produced with the valuable support of public and private collections, and in particular the Gallen-Kallela Museum in Espoo.
This catalog focuses on the artist's connections to nature and mythology throughout his career, from his earliest naturalist works to his symbolist landscapes.
