Félicie de Fauveau (1801-1886) had made the most difficult choices: to be a sculptor, feminist, legitimist, Catholic, loyal to the point of self-denial, uncompromisingly faithful, uncompromising, incorruptible, passionate and "close to extravagance". A key figure in Romantic sculpture (alongside Antoine-Louis Barye, Antonin Moine and Auguste Préault), celebrated in her time, praised to the skies by Stendhal, she fell into oblivion at the end of the 19th century, having nothing left to please a republican and secular 20th century. Her slow rediscovery, due to the tenacity of art historians, has brought to light an extraordinary body of work and personality, tinged with the Middle Ages and religiosity. Thanks to her correspondence and her Memoirs, which have remained unpublished, this work presents the latest research on this extraordinary artist.
