Since Paul Poiret, designers have continually invoked the forms and imaginations associated with traditional costumes, thus writing a cross-history between folklore and haute couture. This dialogue questions the process of artistic creation and its possibilities of borrowing, formal and technical, from popular costumes, their cuts, their colors and their artisanal techniques.
