Before the works of Fabienne Verdier, the viewer's gaze becomes contemplative. This painter has succeeded in reconciling, in her paintings, modern art and Eastern tradition, expressing with such power through her painting harmony and chaos, but also the mystery of the beauty of the world. The book, which accompanies the retrospective on this artist to be held at the Musée Granet, the Cité du Livre and the Pavillon de Vendôme in Aix-en-Provence, highlights her artistic career marked by confrontations with systems of thought from different cultures and eras. Her creative process is nourished by a hybridization of knowledge and manifests itself through technical inventions (huge brushes equipped with a handlebar, glaze alloys, film sketches). This hybridization of knowledge is clearly evident in the three locations where the exhibition will take place. While it will be possible to follow Fabienne Verdier's artistic journey at the Granet Museum, at the Cité du Livre, one will discover her research on the links between painting and music, particularly on string quartets. Finally, the Vendôme Pavilion will present the project based on the link between language and plastic forms and, more specifically, will offer the opportunity to discover large works created from a few pairs of words: labyrinth-freedom, force-form, void-vibration, song-catastrophe. The book delves into the pictorial work and the artistic and spiritual universe of Fabienne Verdier. A chronological journey explores the various moments of the artist's biography and highlights her connection with the painting of scholars in China, then with abstract expressionist art and Flemish painting, continuing to research on sound and pictorial waves. Her poetry evolves around a reflection on her immersion in nature, a practice that she herself defines as the "nomadic studio." His latest works on the territory of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, a subject dear to Cézanne, illustrate this approach. The nomadic studio, however, brings together many other themes: the evolution of his studio, of course, but also the influence of the context and the landscape, as well as the development of new tools for painting.
