Here is an unpublished story, depicting the different theaters of the life of Prince Eugène de Beauharnais (1781-1824), between Paris, Milan and Munich, at a time when the European balance was upset by the rise of Napoleon, then by his fall. A princely story, illustrated by the works of famous artists such as Gros, Gérard, Isabey, Appiani, Comolli, Stieler, as well as by the objects showing the decor and the sumptuous furnishings of the prince's living environment, testifying to his personal tastes in the fields of arts and sciences.

A man of "honor and loyalty," as his motto proclaims, Prince Eugène devoted his life to the service of Napoleon, the second husband of his mother, Marie-Joseph-Rose Tascher de la Pagerie (future Joséphine), and adoptive father who crowned him Viceroy of Italy.
A courageous soldier enrolled in the ranks of Napoleon's armies fighting in Egypt, Russia and Italy, he would once again submit to the Emperor's orders by marrying Auguste Amélie of Bavaria, a princess from one of the oldest European lines. This arranged marriage was the beginning of a family idyll, completed by the birth of six beloved children. He would nevertheless keep away from prestigious scenes; guided by righteousness
and modesty, weapons that he will deploy successfully in the unforeseen turns of History, he will die young, at 43, without having time to free himself from the shadow of Napoleon.
Always in the service of those destiny entrusted to him and the functions it assigned him, his fortune was posthumous. His children married into members of the greatest European princely families, making him the ancestor of most of the reigning dynasties in Western Europe.
