This book, in memory of the great specialist in the Masora and Hebrew grammar, Philippe Cassuto (1959-2020), who passed away too soon, brings together the work of teacher-researchers around three themes in which they are all recognized specialists. Hebrew and biblical studies, first of all, explore, within Judaism, the questions of atheism, the hermeneutics of virility, the plurality of the Masora, as well as the techniques of textual emendation in the Hebrew Bible before taking a new look at the biblical narrative. This is followed by historical studies, half of which examine the relationship between Jews and the communities in which they lived, both in the Middle Ages in Arab countries or Armenia and in 20th century Catholic Spain, and the other half of which deal with the body in ancient Mesopotamia, the constitution of a provincial assembly in 19th century Egypt. century and the teaching of military sciences in Sudan in the 21st century . Finally, linguistic studies recall the place occupied in the French university by both Hebrew and Berber, address ancient Iranian languages in relation to Aramaic, deal with the diversity of expressions of the future in contemporary Persian, present a reflection on the relevance of the desinential inflection in classical Arabic, and examine popular neologisms resulting from the Arab Spring.
