A major figure in Narrative Figuration, Erré has been a virtuoso of collage since the late 1950s, using magazine illustrations, Chinese propaganda images, and American comics. In these collages, which are often the genesis of his paintings, Erré mocks consumer society, denounces the disasters of war, or derides political powers, when he is not focusing on the world of art. The first exhibition devoted by an institution to this essential aspect of his production, "Erro, 50 Years of Collages" presents the entire exceptional donation made by the artist to the Centre Pompidou in 2009, which is complemented by a selection of collages from other collections.
