Most exhibitions devoted to the history of abstract art have often underestimated the fundamental role played by women in the development of this trend. Recent research, illustrated by numerous recent monographs and thematic exhibitions, allows us to reassess the importance of their contribution today, while questioning old historical schemas.
By focusing on the careers of these sometimes unjustly overshadowed artists, the exhibition proposes to write a different history of art, broadening it to include dance, applied arts, photography, cinema, and performance arts. Far from a simple compilation, the exhibition highlights the decisive turning points that marked this evolution, evoking both the research undertaken by the artists, individually or in groups, and the founding exhibitions.
