The ambition of this exhibition project is to offer the public a specific access key to ancient civilizations through an activity practiced by many and known to all as it is still present in our daily lives, music, and to highlight its role and importance in ancient societies (ancient Orient, Egypt, Greece and Rome), through works of great diversity. Music punctuated the life of these societies: it therefore provides a fundamental entry point that allows us to better understand their social, political or religious functioning and ultimately the daily life of the Ancients. The multitude of iconographic testimonies, preserved instruments or even written sources allows us to grasp a universe that is a priori intangible, that of sound and acoustics, and to evoke both the sounds and the different types of music of Antiquity, with multiple functions.
