Following the exceptional donation by Jeannine Poitrey and Marie-Claire Ballabio to the Strasbourg Museums in 2019, this catalogue offers Fine Arts enthusiasts the opportunity to take a detailed look at the fifty-seven works – paintings and graphic works – in this sumptuous collection.

The Strasbourg Museums received an exceptional donation in 2019. For thirty years, the two donors, Jeannine Poitrey and Marie-Claire Ballabio, worked to build this collection, which enriches three Strasbourg institutions: the Museum of Fine Arts for the paintings, the Cabinet of Prints and Drawings, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art for the graphic works. This prestigious donation consists of seventeen paintings and forty works on paper dating from the 15th to the 19th century, the schools represented being mainly Italy, France, Holland, and Flanders. Many of these masterpieces are of international importance and constitute true rarities in French national collections. Among the artists represented are, among others, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Luca Signorelli, Rembrandt, Albrecht Dürer, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and Gustave Doré. The Éditions des Musées de Strasbourg are publishing an exhaustive catalogue of the fifty-seven works in this donation, allowing them to be placed one by one in context and to take stock of the prestige of this collection.
