In the context of the commemorations of the Great War and the Battle of Waterloo, it seemed interesting to revisit the theme of warfare in ancient Egypt by bringing together in this book the essential results of the papers presented at the Catholic University of Louvain in late 2014 and early 2015. The studies collected in this book offer a variety of approaches to the theme, combining textual and iconographic sources. Some attempt to describe the operations carried out abroad by the Egyptians, both in Nubia and the Near East. Others focus on the foreign armies that sought to establish themselves in Egypt, successfully or unsuccessfully. The sovereigns concerned are Thutmose III, Ramesses II, Ramesses III, Piankhy and Psammetichus II. The eastern cities that particularly attract attention are Gaza, Megiddo, Beth Shan and Kadesh.
