Exhibition catalog;

This book paints a portrait of the Parisian Seine using around a hundred objects collected from its bed or on its banks. Some are from random collections carried out during dredging or construction work. Others come from archaeological excavations of its sources in Burgundy or from recent research upstream or downstream of the capital.

The river, which has shaped the city of Paris from the Paleolithic to the present day, has received a wealth of objects that have fallen, been thrown, lost, or moved by the currents. They bear witness to the history of the Seine, its evolution, its developments, and its landscapes, as well as to its successive populations, their lifestyles, their beliefs, and their struggles.

Finally, this is an opportunity to explain some scientific methods used in the interpretation and dating of archaeological remains and objects.

Collective work under the direction of Sylvie Robin, produced with researchers from Inrap and the Department of History and Architecture of the City of Paris.

Exhibition in the Archaeological Crypt of the Ile de la Cité from January 31, 2024
