In spring 2021, the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain will present an exhibition dedicated to Damien Hirst's latest series of paintings, Cherry Blossoms. Begun in 2018, the Cherry Blossoms series follows in the footsteps of many of the artist's other series composed of colored dots, such as Spot Paintings (1986-2011), Visual Candy (1993-1995), Colour Spaces Paintings (2016), and Veil Paintings (2017). Both a diversion from and a tribute to 19th- and 20th-century pictorial art, it also marks the artist's return to the studio and explores, always with a conceptual approach, the question of beauty in painting, color, and excess.
