"Like a Scent of Adventure" is inspired by the recent collective and global experience of confinement imposed for health reasons and almost concomitantly on a majority of people on the planet. This book explores the question of displacement, from the first steps of humanity, to the contemporary context of a fluid world where the movement of people, things and ideas is excessively amplified by globalization. It considers myths and conquests, the regulation of circulation by borders, political ideologies, economic systems and the large migratory movements closely linked to them, as well as the impact of climate change on massive and growing population movements.
Conceived as an extension of the exhibition presented at macLyon in 2020-2021, the catalog brings together previously unpublished essays by Nora N. Khan, American curator and art critic, French sociologist Éric Le Breton, and Marilou Laneuville and Matthieu Lelièvre, the exhibition's curators. It develops twelve chapters that follow the chronological and thematic progression of the exhibition. The work is enhanced by a rich iconography that includes views of the exhibition at macLYON and visuals of the works on display.
List of artists presented: Marina Abramović & Ulay, Vito Acconci, Giulia Andreani, Ismaïl Bahri, Zbyněk Baladrán, Fabienne Ballandras, François Bellay, Laura Ben Haïba and Rémi De Chiara, Louis-Antoine Beysson, Guillaume Bijl, Claude Bonnefond, Arièle Bonzon, Eugène Boudin, Victor Brauner, Thibault Brunet, Nidhal Chamekh, Lucie Chaumont, Paul Chenavard, Ali Cherri, Joseph Cornell, Christine Crozat, Perino Del Vaga (copy after), Marc Desgrandchamps, Theresia Deslandes, Jean Dubuffet, Antoine Duclaux, Gaëlle Foray, Jean-François Gavoty, Hans Hartung, Philippe-Auguste Hennequin, Jean Jullien, Nicolas Jullien, Smaïl Kanouté, Géraldine Kosiak, Raymond Lafage, Wifredo Lam, The Primaticce (copy after), Jean-Baptiste Le Prince (attributed to), Prosper Marilhat, Henri Matisse, Paul Maupin after Jacques Stella (attributed to), Florent Meng, Jean Miette (attributed to), Joos de Momper le Jeune (follower of), Claude Monet, Charles-Louis Muller, Yoko Ono, Panamarenko, Peintre d'Altamura, Jean-Xavier Renaud, Fleury Richard, Peter Robinson, Cristoforo Roncalli (attributed to), Clara Saracho de Almeida, Chloé Serre, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Lise Stoufflet, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Benjamin Testa, Barthélémy Toguo, Warlukurlangu, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Erwin Wurm, William Wyld, Carmelo Zagari, Zohreh Zavareh, Radouan Zeghidour.
