For the Chercheurs de midi, it all began with a large collection of photographs to which everyone could respond by submitting both old snapshots and recent digital images. The project was to develop, by pooling our personal photos, an album that would paint a portrait of life in the South of France, its people, its places, its ways of being and living. For this collection of more than 10,000 photographs, a natural arrangement quickly emerged, rediscovering the obvious cycle of the seasons, the tranquil succession of generations, moments shared with family or friends... A selection of more than 200 images makes up this book. Through the links they maintain without concern for eras or aesthetics, they tell a simple story, ours, as can ultimately be found in any family album. Because browsing Chercheurs de midi is like leafing through the album of all albums and rediscovering memories, but lightened by our personal history. Having gained a little anonymity, the photo begins to speak of photography. It comes to speak of our lives with, perhaps, a little more gentleness and freedom than when we look at our own images.
