Charles Belle is a French painter of Franche-Comté origin, whose work is internationally recognized for his approach to the representation of elements of nature in often monumental formats. An unclassifiable artist, he follows his own style, oscillating between tender and profound realism, intense and sensual gestures, dark and silent work, and a certain lyricism. Over a forty-year career, his colossal production is estimated at nearly 10,000 paintings and more than 20,000 drawings. In order to offer the public the first major monographic exhibition devoted to Charles Belle, seven cultural institutions in Burgundy-Franche-Comté have joined forces, each adopting a different yet complementary perspective on the work of this artist, whose multifaceted work. The exhibitions will take place successively or in parallel in the different establishments from May 2022 to January 2023. The catalog is collectively designed to restore each of the seven exhibitions. - Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology, Besançon: from May 20, 2022 to September 18, 2022 - Museum of Time, Besançon: from June 18, 2022 to January 8, 2023 - Museum of Belfort and Tower 46, Belfort: from October 2022 to February 2023 - Royal Saltworks, Arc-et-Senans: from May 7, 2022 to January 15, 2023 - Museum of Art and History, Pontarlier: from July 1, 2022 to November 21, 2022 - Pôle Courbet (Atelier Courbet), Ornans: from June 1 to October 9, 2022
