This volume brings together various research projects on Egyptian and Mediterranean ceramics discovered in Sudan, as well as on the influence these ceramics had on the productions of ancient Sudan, from the Middle Kingdom to the end of the medieval period. These themes naturally invite reflection on the vitality of exchanges between the Egyptian and Sudanese kingdoms, on their fluctuation over a long period, and on the processes of transfer of technical know-how during their shared history. Until now mainly approached from an Egyptian perspective, these issues are here enriched by the contribution of recent excavations carried out in Nubia, around the Fourth Cataract, in central Sudan and in desert areas. This work thus presents a first synthesis on the furniture of regions still little documented and on a theme that will interest both specialists in Egyptological and Nubian studies.
