The desire to bring art into schools, not only through the teaching of drawing and later the visual arts, but also through the establishment of a harmonious framework and aesthetically pleasing school materials, was one of the most important axes of the educational policy of the Third Republic. This effort continues today, extending to all levels of education. The texts collected in this volume are from a conference organized in October 2019 by the University of Burgundy. This conference focused on three main themes: the role of the image in educational theories; school and university museums; and painted and sculpted decorations in educational establishments.
