New book from the temporary exhibition It Flows Naturally! Aqueduct and Water Stories in Roman Nyon, held at the Nyon Roman Museum from May 19, 2017 to June 3, 2018. Based on an exhibition held at the Nyon Roman Museum from May 2017 to June 2018, this book draws on recent archaeological discoveries on the aqueduct that supplied the Roman colony of Nyon from the springs of Divonne-les-Bains, to retrace the construction site of a Roman aqueduct and offer an overview of the management, consumption, and use of water in the Roman period. Based on field data and ancient texts, the authors follow the water's journey from the source to its outlet, in order to present an overview of hydraulics in Roman Switzerland. Particular emphasis is placed on the Colonia Iulia Equestris (Roman colony of Nyon) with a series of fact sheets accompanying two topographic maps illustrating the route of the aqueduct and the hydraulic installations in the town of Nyon. As most of the sites presented have been excavated over the last thirty years, this work offers a current, partially new, overview of knowledge on this theme.
